The
Redhead Wench
I mean
really, does it get sexier than this?? This is my photo I took on my last
trip to Disneyland, in February 2006, just before the ride was shut for
"upgrades". It wasn't until I was on my way back home from this
trip that I realized, I HAVE to make this costume. I HAVE to be her. Who
wouldn't want to be a sultry redhead like this? My husband, being a sailor,
jumped at the chance of being a pirate, corralling wenches...
I am very excited
to make this, and equally excited to wear it. I know I will be attending
at least one party for Halloween 2006, which is my expected finish time
for both my costume and my husband's. Depending on how this comes out
and looks on me, I would love to attend something with some judging...
I think more fun than anything will be to see if people recognize who
this is.
So from what
I can see, the Redhead's costume consists of a dress, low cut in the front
with a white lace border. The sleeves are full on top, and then gather
in at the elbows, with a long straight cuff. I will probably cover buttons
in the same satin to button the sleeves closed. The dress has a long full
skirt, and is lined in a white fabric, and then the inside of the lining
has row upon row of frilly lace ruffles. I will be using a bridal crinoline
fabric to hold the shape of the skirt, and be the foundation for the ruffles.
I will also install a zipper in the back. The dress is made from satin,
possibly silk, but I am using a poly satin.
The low cut
bodice is from velvet or velveteen, which are very similar. It is boned,
and ties in the front with a black cording through grommets. This is a
very simple wench or renaissance style bodice.
The hat is
a bit of a mystery to me, it is large, with flowers on the right side
underneath the brim. I don't know the shape, its something vaguely oblong,
and sort-of squared off in the front. I will be forming my own shape,
not sure exactly what yet, then covering in the same fabric used on the
bodice.
Accessories
include, a lovely pair of satin shoes, dyed to match, with rhinestone
buckles, a cameo necklace (though I may opt for the WDW black band option),
and a rope tied around the waist. I will be wearing proper knickers, and
fishnets, and TONS of 80's blue eye shadow. Bright red lips and nails,
and that ever-knowing smirk she wears.

The Auctioneer
Pirate
What a glorious figure! How much fun is this guy's job? My husband will
be playing the part of the Auctioneer this Halloween.
His costume
consists of a nearly-knee-length velveteen coat in a dark turquoise color,
trimmed in thick black braid on the edges, pockets and cuffs. There are
around 20 buttons, down each front side, and two on each cuff. Underneath
he wears a long brocade vest in a creamy off-white color, trimmed in dark
forest green braid. There are about a dozen buttons closing the front.
His pants are
a rich turquoise blue color, tucked into outrageously wide boots. He has
a pair of lacy cuffs and cravat, a shoulder belted sword, gold hoop earrings,
and golden and jeweled medallion. A red scarf ties his wild red hair,
topped off with a classic skull and crossbones pirate hat, sporting a
large white plume out the back. He carries a whip to keep the other pirates
in line.
I'm not sure
yet what I will do about the boots, I believe I will make boot covers,
that cover a regular pair of shoes. And they won't be quite as wide...
I wonder how this guy gets around with those huge boots!
